Images out of order in thumbnail view

Why are my images not in the order they are in the admin versus when I see them in the thumbnail view on my site? 

Important note: This is only for the grid of thumbnails. If viewing the images in single view mode and using the next/previous cursor or navbar left/right icons it will cycle through the images in the order that is presented in the admin.

Most likely you are using the Vertical masonry setting or horizontal masonry setting for your thumbnails (under designs > desktop layout): 

When using either of those two thumbnail options for thumbs the images won't be in the same order they are in the admin (only in the grid view). The reason is due to the fact that the masonry options needs to use math to fit together the image thumbnails. If you don't want them out of order then switch the thumbnail setting to grid.
